This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the war, and I watched the film "Yukikaze" starring Takenouchi Yutaka, which was released on Friday, August 15th, commemorating the end of the war, yesterday (16th) at Cineplex Hiratsuka.

Based on the unknown historical facts of the real destroyer Yukikaze, this film is a human drama that depicts people who have worked hard to survive in the turbulent times that lead to the Pacific War, after the war, and into the present day. It is based on the historical facts of destroyers who continue to save lives from the seas of the battlefield and are considered to be "lucky ships."

Regarding the destroyer Yukikaze, I knew about the historical fact that during the surviving Combined Fleet's special attack on Okinawa (Battle of the Bonosaki-Okinawa), a total of 1,700 people, including 276 of the 3,332 crew members of the battleship Yamato, which were sunk after being attacked intensively by US aircraft, along with other destroyers such as Fuyuzuki.
However, this film depicts many more active events, from the naval battles I don't know about to post-war, as well as various human dramas by a group of gorgeous actors, giving the impression that after a tragic war experience, it also conveys the message that will be passed on to the next generation.

After watching the film, I would like to point out the unfortunate points, but the quality of the VFX and the details of the parts were slightly inferior in terms of reality, and the ending scene felt strange, but overall it was a worthwhile film.

Furthermore, this movie"YUKIKAZE"Filming was carried out for about a month from May 2024 using the location set of the destroyer Yukikaze, which was built on the Hiratsukaze coast of Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

story

The destroyer Yukikaze has been known as a "lucky ship" because it has survived all the battles since the start of the war in Japan and the US due to the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, saved many of its comrades who were thrown into the sea on any battlefield, and has always returned together. Behind his achievements were the outstanding general-ship skills of the captain Terazawa and the quick decisions of the senior corporal Hayase. Even though the two sometimes clash, they trust each other. Meanwhile, Yukikaze finally heads to the Battle of Leyte, where the Japanese and US Navy decides to become a male and female battle.
