The old range hood installed in the Takara Standard system kitchen in my condominium had deteriorated over time and the internal shutter mechanism was no longer working properly, resulting in poor suction, so I carried out work to replace the range hood along with repair work on the toilet floor using "Koukan-dekirukun".'

The range hood of the equipped system kitchen was covered with something like a large hood. This type of range hood comes with a sirocco fan and cover, and is generally called a boot type.
The biggest problem with older boot-type range hoods with a built-in sirocco fan is noise during operation, and it now appears that most of these types of range hoods are due for replacement.

Recently, range hoods have become thinner and more compact, and quiet sirocco fans have become mainstream. The fan body of slim range hoods can now be easily removed (without screws), greatly reducing cleaning efforts.

Last time, on the day we visited for toilet renovation work, the engineer in charge of replacing the range hood looked at the installation status of this range hood, and he was of the opinion that it was possible to replace it with a new range hood.
Therefore, after consulting with the engineer in charge, I received a new estimate based on the model recommended by Replacement, the Noritz Curara NFG6S25MSV, and ordered the work.

Noritz's range hoods are OEM products from Fuji Industries, as well as Rinnai's.

About replacing the range hood

The ``filter'' that is often installed in conventional range hoods has the role of preventing dirt from entering the inside of the range hood, but it requires regular maintenance, which can make cleaning difficult and give the impression that dirt is difficult to remove.
Many of the slim types currently on sale are "non-filter types,'' which do not have a filter, and are popular.

Many of the slim range hoods that are available in replaceable ranges are of this non-filter type.
In the non-filter type, oil smoke hits the sirocco fan directly, and dirt and oil are collected in a collection tray through centrifugal separation. Non-filter typeSince there is no need for troublesome filter cleaning, there are fewer parts to clean, reducing the hassle of cleaning.

Noritz “Curara” construction estimate

Below is a construction estimate for Noritz's "Clara". Because we requested work to replace the range hood in conjunction with the toilet renovation work that was carried out last month, a "bulk work discount'' of 5,000 yen will be deducted from the work fee.

By the way, when I researched other replacement construction companies online, I found that Seikatsudo was also cheap. Under the above conditions, the total cost will be 113,800 yen (5000 yen coupon discount applied + separate parking fee).

However, when I checked reviews online, I found that there were many reports of people requesting construction work from Seikatsudo and being billed in cash for additional fees that were not included in the estimate, so accounting may not be straightforward. There are also reports that the after-sales service desk is not functioning...💦
On that point, the response from the ``Kakederu-kun'' counter was very fast, and instead of paying an additional fee after the work was completed, they actually reduced the amount from the original estimate, so I felt extremely secure!

Replacement with Noritz “Curara” (before and after)

The before and after images of the range hood before and after construction are uploaded in the gallery below.
We carried out repair work on the toilet floor in the morning, and started replacing the range hood in the afternoon.
The Takara range hood was an old model and had special piping that housed a shutter mechanism, so removing it and installing it in the new range hood was extremely difficult, but all work was completed safely by 4pm.
It seems that there has been no experience of replacing this old type of range hood, and since there is no guarantee that it will be successful, I was left with the decision of whether or not to carry out the work, but I asked them to take on the challenge. The result was a success and Good Job!

Before construction (Takara Standard)

After construction (Noritz “Curara”)

Compared to the Takara range hood I used before, the Noritz range hood has a strong suction power and is much quieter. Since it is a non-filter type, daily care has become much easier. I also like the stylish and slim design.

This model is not equipped with a shutter to prevent backflow from the exhaust port. However, Noritz's exhaust electric shutterFP0790 By incorporating the shutter function can be added.
FP0790 is provided as a common component (optional item) for Noritz slim type non-filter range hoods. NFG6S25MSV is also included in this series, so it is compatible.
However, please note the following points:

Set conditions:Electric exhaust shutters are a component that is often installed, especially in apartment complexes and other housing complexes, to prevent outside air from entering, noise, and headwinds when the range hood is turned off. Please install according to the exhaust route and regulations of the installation location.

Stove interlocking function:NFG6S25MSV is a model that is not linked to the stove. The FP0790 is an electric shutter on the exhaust side that opens and closes in conjunction with the range hood's power supply, so direct linkage with the stove must be considered separately.

In addition, when we checked the inlet of the Noritz range hood NFG6S25MSV on a day when strong winds were blowing, we confirmed that there was a backflow of wind and noise from the storm. Although the severity of the problem was minor, wind pressure and backflow of outside air are particularly likely to occur on the upper floors of condominiums, so there is a strong need to install Noritz's electric range hood exhaust shutter FP0790.

2025.12.15 Update

Regarding the above matter, when we contacted ``Kakudekiru-kun'' to confirm whether Noritz's electric exhaust shutter for range hoods, FP0790, could be additionally installed, we received the following response. Unfortunately, I will give up on installing it.

When I checked with the engineer who was previously in charge of range hood construction, I was told that the newly installed range hood's exhaust duct was installed at the last possible position, so it would be difficult to connect the electric shutter, which would be connected at a higher position.

If you are in an environment where a damper is not installed in the piping and you are really concerned about the backflow of outside air, one solution may be to move the range hood installation position downward (separately, two horizontal curtain boards are required) and then install the FP0790, or install a type of check damper that opens and closes the shutter using wind pressure in the middle of the piping.
However, the chuck damper is noisy as it makes a flapping sound when strong winds blow, and if the damper is used in a kitchen where there is a lot of oily smoke, the blades may become stuck with oil and cause problems.
In fact, the previously installed Takara range hood with a built-in chuck damper had a damper malfunction due to oil and lost suction power. Therefore, I think it is better not to install it because there is no risk of damper failure, so I think there are advantages and disadvantages.

As shown below, we installed an electric exhaust shutter (FP0790) on a Noritz range hood and replaced the duct using DIY.
