The Corona window air conditioner CWH-A1815 (manufactured in 2015), which is a dual-purpose heating and cooling type installed in the bedroom on the common hallway side of my condominium, broke, so I replaced it with the Corona "ReLaLa CWH-A1824R" made in 2014 by DIY. Construction work has been carried out.
In the past, window air conditioners were also sold under Matsushita Electric Industrial's national brand, but Corona is the only company that manufactures and sells air conditioning type window air conditioners, so you only have one choice.
Unfortunately, it seems that major home electronics retailers only sell window air conditioners in the summer, so this time we will be selling Corona's cooling/heating type window air conditioner "ReLaLa CWH-A1824R" on the mail order site "Yahoo! Shopping". (W)” for 69,516 yen (shipping included).
Installation of a window air conditioner is not easy to install, as it requires drilling holes to attach the window stopper to the aluminum window sash, and is difficult without special tools.
Therefore, for new installations, we recommend that you contact a professional if possible.
This time, since we were replacing equipment from the same manufacturer and had the same parts and specifications, we decided that DIY work would be possible and decided to do the installation work ourselves.
The air conditioner itself (total weight 24 kg) is quite heavy, so you must be prepared to work alone.
By the way, my arms got sore from this work🤦♂️
During installation work, be careful not to hurt your back or arms!
The gallery below shows the unboxing of the CWH-A1824R.
The package includes the main unit, dedicated remote controller, installation parts, instruction manual, and work instructions (installation manual).
Removal of old window air conditioner CWH-A1815
Prior to the window air conditioner replacement work, we will be removing the old Corona window air conditioner CWH-A1815 (eye-catching image).
The gallery below uses photos of the new model (CWH-A1824R), but the old model also has the same specifications.
Installation of new window air conditioner CWH-A1824R
Corona window air conditioner "ReLaLa CWH-A1824R" has the following features.
- Energy saving performance: High energy efficiency allows you to reduce your electricity bill.
- Silent design: Provides a comfortable environment for quiet operation.
- Light and compact: Easy to install and remove as it can be attached to the window frame.
- Multi-function: In addition to both cooling and heating functions, automatic operation, dry operation, and internal drying operation are also possible, supporting comfortable air conditioning in all seasons.
- Easy-to-use control panel: Temperature and air volume can be adjusted with simple operations.
- Filter function: A 10-year replacement-free filter (CD-JF2S) that suppresses viruses, sterilizes, and deodorizes can be installed as an optional item.
When we did a trial run, the operating noise was certainly quieter than the old model, excluding the initial operation, so it seems like there has been an improvement in performance.
The replacement work for the new model CWH-A1824R was carried out using the following steps.
Replacing old parts
Adjusting the mounting frame and attaching it to the window frame
In the eye-catching image above, the new mounting frame is on the left, and the old mounting frame is on the right. The height of the window to be installed is 84cm, and in this condition it is impossible to install a new mounting frame.
Therefore, it is necessary to remove the upper frame by turning the screws circled in red on the new mounting frame, cut the accordion panel with scissors or a cutter as shown below, and adjust the upper frame to this upper limit. Masu.
Installing the packing
As shown below, attach the column side packing (narrow) and door side packing (wide) to the mounting frame, then replace the window packing around the edge of the window sash.
When replacing window gaskets, completely remove the previous glue before proceeding to ensure a clean finish. You will also need to cut the convex part to match the shape of the sash on the opposite side.
Install the mounting frame on the window frame
Slide the window air conditioner mounting frame to the left along the groove of the auxiliary metal rail and install it on the window frame. Lift the top of the accordion panel upwards, then tighten all the screws (4 locations in total) to secure the mounting frame.
Compatible with indoor drain and installation of main unit
Generally, in condominiums, drain water cannot be discharged to the common hallway side due to management association regulations, so first install the air conditioner on the window frame after making the main unit compatible with the indoor drain method, as shown below. .
When lifting the air conditioner, support the bottom and sides of the unit with your hands. If you grab the decorative panel on the front of the unit and lift it up, there is a risk that the air conditioner will fall, so never touch the decorative panel.
①Insert the two concave parts on the left and right at the bottom of the air conditioner into the two convex parts on the left and right at the bottom of the mounting frame.
② Push the top of the air conditioner and make sure it is locked.
③Turn the upper cooler fixing screw with a Phillips screwdriver to fix it.
About indoor drain drainage
The indoor drain drains into a plastic tank for kerosene as shown below.
The water level sensor below is installed at the top of the tank, and when the drain reaches a certain level, an alarm will sound and a notification will be sent to your smartphone.
About disposal of recycled home appliances
According to the Home Appliance Recycling Law, air conditioners disposed of during replacement work must be disposed of in an appropriate manner.
Regarding the waste generated during this construction work, we have decided to request a ``general waste collection and transportation company'' recommended by Hiratsuka City to dispose of it for a fee.
Details can be found on Hiratsuka City's official website "Disposal of Recycled Home Appliances" below.
Incidentally, the collection fee for the Corona window air conditioner was 3,990 yen, with the request to Clean Service Co., Ltd. as the collection company and the requester transporting it to the entrance of the condominium.
