The birthstones for May are jade and emerald. 💎 Green is said to be a soothing color, and when you look at it, it certainly makes you feel soothed. In fact, emeralds are one of my favorite gemstones, and I have a surprisingly large collection on my "secret jewelry collection" site. The Japanese name for emerald is beryl. The mineral name is beryl, and the main component is beryllium (element symbol: Be). This gemstone is characterized by its crystals having the shape of a hexagonal column. Emerald is relatively hard at 7.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness, but it has the weakness of being easily cracked. Other green stones include jade, amazonite, dematoid garnet, chrome diopsite, green tourmaline, tsavorite, green agate, and many other beautiful stones. Among them, I think the demantoid garnet from Russia is the rarest. The main sources of emerald are Colombia (such as the Muzo mine) and Brazil. Jade is produced in Myanmar and China, but it can also be found in Itoigawa, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Below is a gallery of emeralds and jade.
