The birthstone of September is sapphire. Sapphire belongs to the same ore called corundum as ruby, whose composition consists of aluminum oxide (chemical formula Al2O3). Blue is common in sapphire color, but in fact, there are various other types such as green, pink, orange, white, etc. Among them, I like sapphires with cornflower blue (royal blue) color that is considered to be the highest grade.
In addition, the loose other than blue is pasted from the sapphire which I collected below. Among them, natural Papalachian sapphires produced in Sri Lanka are the rarest. Pink sapphires are also beautiful and cute, but when their color turns red, they are called rubies, not sapphires. (^_^;)
